Company Training

Linda Anousta trains companies of all sizes to make their own products.

It may be that a company just want an excellent, safe, base cream to use for their own already established range of products, and they do not want to buy in often sub- standard and inferior base creams/products when they could make their own, as and when they desire.

This knowledge is invaluable and worth its weight in gold.

It might be that the company are looking to make a range of products from Shower Gels to Moisturisers and Shampoo’s to Handcreams but whatever the range desired, Linda Anousta can tailor one day or a week of training to suit the company’s needs and provide them with the range they require.

The knowledge and the power to make what the company wants as and when it is required is critical to company cash flow and enables the company to make what it needs when it needs the it, and not have to buy in bulk from another company it has out sourced. Costs this way are kept to a minimum.

All companies are catered for and health and beauty spas are a speciality!

Please enquire on day rates and state what you are looking for in terms of product range. TEL 0845 2579078

Anousta Products

In order to successfully market something, it seems it must smell good, even if the smell is produced chemically.

Almost without exception, modern perfumes and fragrances are produced from petro-chemicals, and these same chemicals are considered to be hazardous waste, capable of producing toxic side effects. If you picked some parsley, chives, or even flowers, would you expect them to look or smell the same a week later? Probably not. Yet you can buy a ‘natural’ product on your supermarket shelves, and it will smell exactly the same years later.

How do you think that can be?

Fragrances can be absorbed through the skin. The greater the emollient quality of a product (such as in skin creams), the greater the absorbency (j App Toxicol, 1997;17:153-8). When the fragrance chemicals can penetrate the skin, they can affect other organs. Some have been shown to cause discoloration of internal organs, others are toxic to the liver and kidneys, others accumulate in fatty tissue and are passed on to children through breast milk. Fragrances can be quick to saturate the blood, but slow to clear from the body.

In 1989, a US House sub-committee asked US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to analyse 2,983 chemicals used in personal care products. The results were as follows; 884 of the ingredients were found to be toxic. Of these, 778 can cause acute toxicity: 146 can cause tumours, 218 can cause reproductive complications, 314 can cause skin and eye irritation. Utusan Konsumer, Dec 1998 There is so much information about the harmful effects of many of the chemicals used in our everyday cosmetics and bathroom toiletries, yet very little indeed is being done to remove these chemicals from our products and of course from the environment which we are so rapidly polluting. One could fill a book with the number of chemicals that you could be aware of and would want to avoid, so the information provided here is just the tip of the iceberg!

N.L.P. Master Practitioner

Linda Anousta started her workiing for a pharmacist in a busy GP practice in Bournemouth. Two years later she started her career as a nurse, (S.E.N. Hillingdon Hospital, Middx and S.R.N.in High Wycombe Hospital, Bucks, 1979-1982).

Linda worked as a Nursing Sister in a busy doctor’s surgery (1982-1985) looking after emergency patients as well as attending to the patients of ten G.P’s who worked in the large practice.

She returned to ward work as a staff nurse in the newly opened "Hampshire Clinic" in Old Basing, Basingstoke, Hampshire.

In 1986, she had her daughter, Emma, and returned to (paid!) work in 1988 working for a Consultant Dermatologist.

Linda would work in the various clinics that her consultant ran in Harley Street,London, Basingstoke and Winchester.

In 1991, she embarked upon a new career, and trained in massage and Aromatherapy and followed this with a wide variety of further training every year for the next 9 years. In 1999 she trained with Kolbjorn Borseth of AROMANTIC in how to make natural and safe cosmetics.

With a 30 year professional history of nursing, surgery, dermatological care, Aromatherapy, Massage and beauty training she is well used to seeing the effects of a wide variety of chemicals (positive and negative) and their effects upon the skin.

She has created a niche market where in the one and only ANOUSTA shop in Wimborne, Dorset, Linda will give time to customers, look at various skin problems and deal with issues from Eczema to psoriasis, Fibromyalgia to sleep problems, dry skin to flaky scalp and much more and give free advice on what products to use, how to use them and will recommend other practitioners for people to see if deemed helpful. It really is a "one stop shop" to sort out those annoying issues that sometimes the doctors do not have the time to deal with.

Chemicals – Triclosan

This is an antibacterial disinfectant that has been added to handwashes, soaps, duvets, underwear, antibacterial chopping boards, kitchen sponges and now to ‘Total Care’ toothpastes. Using a toothpaste containing Sodium Laureth Sulphate (added because it creates foam when you clean your teeth) is enough to cause mouth and gum problems for many people. When Triclosan is added to the toothpaste, the problem can become much worse. This ingredient is remarkably similar to Agent Orange which was used in the Vietnam war to de-foliate the jungle. It is an organochloride biocide commonly referred to nowadays as " antibacterial disinfectant". Many toxic side effects have been linked to this chemical and even the chemical companies are having to pull back from the tonnage they are pouring in to the environment every year due to suspicions raised about the safety of this chemical. The more a chemical like Triclosan is used then the more chances bacteria have to evolve a resistance to it.

If you are using a toothpaste with the words TOTAL CARE on the tube/packet, look under the ingredients and you probably find the word TRICLOSAN about 4 or 5 words along in the ingredients list. Please read the warnings on many many toothpaste packing and wonder why they are there. Quite frightening what they expect to put in your mouth !!!!

Ulcers and tender spongy gums are just some of the problems that arise with using a toothpaste with these chemicals in it. The more a chemical like Triclosan is used, the more chances bacteria have to evolve resistance. Mutation of bacteria can lead to superbugs being created. My dental hygienist is currently taking several people each day off ‘Total Care’ formula toothpastes with much success. When the customer then begins using ANOUSTA™ toothpaste then a rapid improvement is seen and felt in the mouth and particularly around the gums. We have many many testimonials from happy customers.

Down the drain and into… dolphins?

Researchers have reported that triclosan was found in the blood of bottlenose dolphins. This goes to show that the consequences of overusing a pesticide like triclosan are incredibly far-reaching and dangerous.

It is well known that marine mammals, forced to swim in polluted waters, become contaminated with persistent organic pollutants. Triclosan, commonly used in personal care products including hand soaps and dish detergent, has made its way down drain and into dolphins living in US coastal waters. The study, which appears in this month’s Environmental Pollution, examined dolphins from rivers, an estuary, a harbour and a lagoon in South Carolina and Florida. Blood samples from wild bottlenose dolphins found within an estuary in Charleston, South Carolina and in the Indian River Lagoon, Florida in 2005 were analysed for triclosan. Triclosan was detected in 31 and 23% of the animals from the two sites.
As we wash our hands (or dishes, or clothing, etc.) with soaps containing triclosan, it eventually enters wastewater. While most harmful residue is removed during the treatment process, triclosan persists in waterways and is one of the most commonly found contaminants in river and estuary sediment downstream of treated water outfalls.

Next time you’re shopping, keep in mind the possible effects your choices have on the world. If we continue on the same irresponsible path, who knows what the effects of triclosan in our environment will be 10 or 20 years from now? And take a minute to educate your friends and family about this issue.

Take the Triclosan pledge and help protect dolphins and the rest of the planet!

Everything is a chemical. Everything has some chemical structure to make it whatever it is, a leaf, a plant, a human being etc etc.

We strive to keep away from any chemical that may cause ANY reaction at all to anyone.

Some people are highly allergic to some specific chemicals and should always check with their supplier of skincare for example that any agent they may experience a problem with is NOT present in that product.

Not all products that we buy in are clearly labelled as to the chemical make up of the product, and sometimes on further extensive investigation, it is possible to find that a chemical we wish to avoid has been added in some very small amount to base ingredient we use to make something with.

Once aware of this situation we work very hard to find another alternative source or better product. It is an on going process. Occasionally, the amounts of a possible irritant are extremely small and have not caused a problem for ANYONE thus far. However it is the desire of ANOUSTA PRODUCTS to be true to their word and produce excellent and superior products that we all need to demand for us as humans as well as the planet we live on.

In perspective we will often present our bodies with more of a danger by crossing the road, breathing in the polluted air in a town, drinking too much alcohol or eating bacteria rich food!

As stated below, TEA, DEA, and MEA do not appear to cause a problem in their own right but IF they combined with nitrites, often used as a preservative or present as contaminants, they create nitrosamines…. and then problems can occur. The trouble is thatt there is no way for us the consumer to tell from the label whether the product is nitrosamine-contaminated or not.

Below is a little more information about these chemicals but I suggest we remember that hold in perspective that Volcano’s throw out highly toxic ingredients by the ton every day, smokers breathe in over 400 toxic chemicals every breath and our cars pollute our lungs.

It is extremely challenging to live a TOTALLY pure life free from ANY TOXIC chemicals AT ALL.

DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (monoethanolamine), TEA (triethanolamine): These chemicals are used as emulsifiers or foaming agents.. These chemicals CAN cause allergic reactions, may cause eye irritation and cause excessive drying of the hair and skin.

DEA will be listed in the following ways:

  • Cocamide DEA
  • Cocamide MEA
  • DEA–Cetyl Phosphate
  • DEA–Oleth–3 Phosphate
  • Larramide DEA
  • Lauramide DEA
  • Linoleamide MEA
  • monoethanolamine MEA
  • Myristamide DEA
  • Oleamide DEA
  • Stearamide MEA
  • Triethanolamine
  • TEA (Triethanolamine) Luryl Sulfate
  • TEA (Triethanolamine) Lauryl Sulfate
  • TEA (Triethanolamine) Laureth Sulfate

www.botanicalbasics.com

The ubiquitous triethanolamine (TEA) and diethanolamine (DEA) compounds – surfactants found in a variety of shampoos and liquid soaps – are harmless on their own. But when combined with nitrites – often used as a preservative or present as contaminants – they create nitrosamines, a class of compounds found to be carcinogenic and absorbed through the skin. Because there is no way for a consumer to tell from the label whether a product is nitrosamine-contaminated, it’s best not to buy products containing DEA or TEA.

Both allergic and irritant contact dermatitis can cause your skin to become:

  • Red,
  • Inflamed,
  • Blistered,
  • Dry,
  • Thickened
  • Cracked.

The most commonly affected areas of skin are your hands and face. Depending on the type of contact dermatitis you have, you may also experience other symptoms.

Allergic contact dermatitis

As well as the symptoms listed above, allergic contact dermatitis will also cause the skin to be itchy. It may take many hours, or several days for your symptoms to appear after coming into contact with the allergen.

In most cases, the area of skin which came into contact with the allergen will be the area which is affected. For example, if you are allergic to an eye shadow or blusher, your eyelids or cheeks may be affected. However, sometimes other areas of skin may also be affected, even if they did not come into contact with the allergen.

Irritant contact dermatitis

As well as the symptoms listed above, irritant contact dermatitis causes burning, stinging and soreness. Your symptoms will normally appear within 48 hours of contact with the irritant. Strong irritants may cause your skin to react immediately.

Irritant contact dermatitis will only affect the areas of skin which you have exposed to the irritant.

Chemicals – Sodium Lauryl Sulphate

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is a harsh chemical ingredient that is the base of most commercially produced shampoo’s and bubble baths. SLS has been shown to enter the blood stream and therefore become systemic. It could retard healing, can cause cataracts in adults, and keep children’s eyes from developing properly.

Why is it used? Because it’s cheap and it gives a lot of foam. There does seem to be a myth the more foam you have, the cleaner you must be!! This of course is not true. An industrial chemist told me that the SODUIM part of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is derived from CAUSTIC SODA, known for being drying and harsh.

This same chemical is used in the industrial world as garage floor cleaners, car wash soaps and engine degreasers, and is very harsh. It can dis-rupt the normal hair growth cycle causing hair to change its natural pattern of growth. It is so harsh, that it means when it is used in shampoo, one normally requires a conditioner to be applied afterwards (this also makes more profit for a company). If on the other hand, one uses a more gentle detergent, a conditioner does not become automatically necessary (in some cases, permed, dyed or hair in poor condition does need some attention with a good conditioner). Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES) is the alcohol form of SLS, and is slightly less irritating, but may cause more drying, and is widely used.

Chemicals – Propylene Glycol

This additive is a moisturiser (humectant), described as ‘safe’, is used as auto-antifreeze, aircraft wing de-icers, and found in hydraulic fluids. It is also used to prevent shredded coconut and ready-to-spread cake frosting from drying out! It can also be found in moisturisers, underarm deodorants, skin lotions, etc.

Animal tests prove it to be a strong irritant and show that it can cause liver and kidney abnormalities. It can cause headache, tearing of the eyes, skin and throat redness and soreness, nasal irritation, nausea, etc. This information was printed in the Wall Street Journal in the 1980’s and no action was taken.

There is however a strong link shown with the health issues listed below:

• Cancer link; reproductive, developmental and organ system toxicity found and reported by EWG.

• Skin, eyes and lung sensitizer – can instigate immune system response that can include itching, burning, scaling, hives, and blistering of skin.

• Penetration enhancer: alter(s) skin structure, allowing other chemicals to penetrate deeper into the skin, increasing the amounts of other chemicals that reach the bloodstream.

Contact dermatitis is strongly related to the use of Propylene Glycol

It can be listed on labels as:
PROPYLENE GLYCOL; PROPYLENE GYLCOL; PROPLENE GLYCOL; PROPLYENE GLYCOL; PROPYLENE GYCOL; PROPYLENE GLCYOL; PROYLENE GLYCOL; PROPTYLENE GLYCOL; 1,2-PROPANEDIOL

This chemical is used in these types of products:

Baby Lotion,Sunless Tanning, Facial Cleanser, Facial Moisturizer/Treatment, Conditioner, Shampoo, Body Wash/Cleanser, Styling Gel/Lotion, Hair Color and Bleaching, Antiperspirant/Deodorant (Men’s), Around-eye Cream, Acne Treatment, Exfoliant/Scrub, Antiperspirant/Deodorant, Sunscreen/Tanning Oil, Foundation, Mascara, Foot Treatment, Anti-aging, Skin Lightener, After Shave, Perfume, Relaxer, Eye Liner, Shaving Cream (Men’s), Concealer, Hair Spray, Styling Mousse/Foam, Anti-itch/rash Cream, Body Firming Lotion, Toothpaste, Body Spray, Lip Gloss, Bar Soap, Hair-loss Treatment, Depilatory, Bath Oil/Salts/Soak, Pain/Wound Treatment, Shaving Cream, Liquid Hand Soap, Bubble Bath, Cologne.

ANOUSTA PRODUCTS LTD DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!

Chemicals–Phthalates

These are said to have oestrogenic properties and at high doses can damage reproductive tissues and cause deformities in embryos. Consumers currently have no way of knowing whether products contain phthalates as labelling laws don’t require phthalates to be listed separately, instead they are included under the ‘parfum’ banner.

There is a movement to try to encourage the EU to unconditionally remove all phthalates from cosmetics and improve the labelling in the meantime. The Womens Environmental Network (WEN) has started a campaign lobbying for safer cosmetics and toiletries as they were concerned that women were being exposed to small doses of chemicals that can build up in the body and disrupt hormones, affect the immune systems and trigger cancer, allergies and other health problems.

Phthalates are used to make fragrances last longer and to soften plastics, but the EU was worried about evidence that phthalates could leach out of plastic and in 1999 banned their use in some baby toys designed to be put in the mouth, and they have recently extended the ban.
